English Language Institute instructor Anwar Accawi has been selected as a member of the Knoxville Writers’ Guild’s speakers bureau.
The speakers bureau is a community service of the Guild.
A friend and Guild member recommended that Accawi become involved with the speakers bureau.
Accawi said he desired to be better connected with other writers in order to learn from them and share his knowledge.
“I must humbly say that, having been around for 64 years, I know a thing or two about a thing or two,” Accawi remarked.
Accawi’s particular areas of expertise include writing, Middle Eastern history, culture and politics as well as Islamic thought and religion.
He is the author of The Boy from the Tower of the Moon (Beacon Press, 1999), The Telephone (in The Best American Essays, 1998), Plastic (in The Sewanee Review, volume 112, number 4, fall issue, 2004) and The Radio (in DoubleTake, Spring 1999).
